This soft pink floral painting is perfect for all watercolor enthusiasts from novice to expert! This painting uses the painting technique of wet-on-wet to create the beautiful pink and green blends seen in the petals and leaves, and should take about 30 minutes to create.
Colors Palette:
-golden yellow
-yellow ochre
-shell pink
-opera pink
-magnesium green
-sap green.
1. After filling your water brush with clean water, dab some clean water on each of the color dots to activate them and soften them. This is important step to create a soft look with watercolors because you really don’t need to use too much paint. Starting with the flower centers, wet brush thoroughly and apply an even wash of golden yellow paint evenly to flower centers. While paint is still wet, apply a concentrated line of yellow ochre along bottom of flower center to give depth. Allow to dry.
2. Paint a layer of clean water on each leaf and while water is still wet, dab a line of magnesium green on one side of the leaf and a line of sap green on the other and let the colors mix together in the middle. You can help the color spread with your paintbrush but don’t mix too much, so that the leaves have to two color look as in the example picture. Allow leaves to dry.
3. Paint the stems of each flower with a watery layer of sap green and let dry.
4. Use the same technique you used for the leaves for the petals. Paint each flower petal individually with clean water. While still wet, apply shell pink color to petal on the side where it touches the flower center. While paint is still wet, add a concentrated amount of opera pink to the outer edge of the petal and allow the colors to mix and let dry. For petals that are touching it is best to paint individually and allow to dry before going onto petal next to it.
5. And ta-da! You now have a beautiful pink floral watercolor painting that you created yourself! And you can even use the leftover colors to paint something completely new, have fun with it!
General Tips:
Always use clean water when laying down a water before adding color. A hint of left over color will change the look of the painting. Use paper towel to make sure brush is clean in between colors.
It is super important to allow elements to fully dry before moving to next step. This is especially important for the touching flower petals, do one at a time and make sure the neighbors are dry before painting to avoid colors bleeding. You do not need a lot of water or paint and this will allow the elements to dry faster.
